Scorpion Electro Systems is the best small company in the Northwest’s prestigious automotive industry – and that’s official.
The Chorley company was named SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) of the Year for its excellent performance over the last 12 months.
Scorpion makes state-of-the-art vehicle security systems and other electronic components.
It has built up an enviable client base including Renault Trucks, Daf, Avia and Subaru.
Now that progress has been acclaimed by recognition at the inaugural Northwest Regional Automotive Awards in Liverpool.
The judges from organisers the Northwest Automotive Alliance were impressed by its all-round achievements including investment in new technology.
They said: “This is an excellent performance by a company operating in an aggressively competitive global market. Scorpion has succeeded in keeping high value manufacturing in the UK.”
After picking up the award managing director Mark Downing said: “We were up against some very strong companies and to win is very flattering.”
Scorpion’s products range from vehicle alarms to reversing sensors to docking devices for I-pods.
In the past year the firm has acquired three other companies – Toad Security, Soundlinx and Sigma Alarms. New jobs have been created and turnover has doubled to top £6 million.
“We all strive to achieve excellence and it’s nice when that is recognized,” said Mark. “It has been quite a successful couple of years. We are breaking into new markets, opening new accounts and investing in research and innovation.”
He has already declared his aim of making Scorpion “Europe’s centre of excellence for automotive electronic security and electronic component technology.”
